Week 1 Term 3 2024
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
A warm welcome back to you all. I hope you all had the opportunity to enjoy some relaxing time with your family and friends during the holiday break.
We are excited to welcome our new Reception students and their families to IHM this term as they begin their journey with us.
A big welcome to:
Ada, Georgia, Arlo, Makayla, Noah, Teresa, Levi, Rory, Eva, Makenzie, Annie, April, Kian and William.
Sisters of Mercy Foundress, Catherine McAuley, noted, “A good beginning is of great importance.” This is important for children starting school but also important for all students at the start of every term. In this spirit, staff at IHM are committed to building relationships with students and their families to ensure they feel supported and achieve their goals. Positive partnership between home and school is an important indicator of school success for students.
Living Learning Leading Survey Week 2
Next week IHM will distribute the Living Learning Leading Survey to Parents, Students and Staff in our school, this occurs across all Diocesan schools in the Catholic Education System. The Living Learning Leading Surveys have been developed by Catholic Education SA to support schools in rating their performance and progress towards meeting the intent of the Framework that we all work with. Data collected using the Surveys will be interpreted and used by our school to support our self-assessment of performance against the four components of the Living Learning Leading Standard (namely, Catholic identity; Curriculum and co-constructed learning and assessment design; Students agency, identity learning and leadership; and Community engagement). Further, the perception data will provide important information that can be triangulated with other data when making school improvement decisions.
Important things to know:
- The survey takes between three and five minutes.
- It’s an important opportunity for parents and caregivers to tell the school staff how things are going for them and their children.
- We value your feedback and will try to respond to the information that you provide.
- Feedback does NOT include the data of individuals; rather, feedback involves graphs based on feedback from all parents and caregivers.
- If you have more than one child at the school, respond based on your experience of your oldest child at the school.
Term 3 Uniform
As we commence Term 3 the winter weather has truly arrived so please ensure your child is warmly dressed. Our active uniform ensures there are multiple choices and garments that can be layered to stay warm. Thermal wear can also be worn under the school uniform, where it is not visible. Students are not permitted to wear clothing that is not part of the school uniform. Please see the uniform shop should you require any additional pieces as we usually have stock available.
- Earrings should be plain gold/silver sleeper or studs.
- Hair longer than shoulder length should be tied back.
- Accessories to be in school colours.
Please check the uniform policy should you need clarification:

Student Safety and Duty of Care
The school gates open at 8.30am every morning and staff commence duty from this time. With the building project entry is through the East Street cottage gates and Drayton Street gate. Please ensure your child’s safety by supervising them until they enter school grounds. Students should not be left outside of school grounds without adult supervision before this time. The gates will be locked again at 8:50am to ensure the safety of our students.
If students arrive after this time they must enter via the front office so that they can be marked as arriving late.
OSHC care is available from 8.00am to 8.30am, with a fee of $6.30. Please contact them should you wish to use this service.
Communication with School Staff
Staff look forward to a positive term of learning and care for your child and are committed to being available and working in partnership with families with strong, open and respectful communication.
The Seesaw app is the regular form of communication between class and home where you will find the day to day information from teachers around classroom programs and events.
The school newsletter distributed through School Stream in Weeks 1, 4, 7 & 10 provide whole school information from leadership. If you would like support to set these up please see the front office.
Whilst teachers are in classrooms teaching or on duty supervising children they are not able to engage in deeper conversations with parents around important issues in a way that adequately gives the attention deserved. They also are unable to check emails and Seesaw during the day whilst teaching or on duty breaks. Should there be anything urgent or important please contact the office, where staff can relay messages directly, or alternatively make an appointment time to discuss matters with a staff member that require a face to face conversation.
Staff want to be able to give the appropriate attention and time needed. Staff will respond to emails or messages within 48 hours of receiving them and will do so within business hours, but not after hours or on weekends.
Have a good week.
