Week 5 Term 2 2022
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Week 5 of Term 2! I hope you are keeping healthy, warm and avoiding the coughs and flus so common this time of year. Unfortunately, I succumbed to a bout of the flu but am now better and glad to be back on board. I wish to remind everyone that we must continue to be vigilant about hand washing and social distancing.
Also, to ensure everyone’s health, if your child is sick please do not send them to school. Thank you for abiding by all these precautionary measures for the good of all. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
A Huge Thank You
What an amazing community we have at IHM and it showed on the Election Day. To all who helped out with the Election Day stalls, those who baked, supplied goods, cooked the BBQ, served customers, cleaned or came to support by buying something.
Nadia, Kate, Cindy and the P & F team worked so hard and did an incredible job. Thanks to Rowland Hall for the much needed and appreciated coffee on the day. So many people commented either in person or on social media about what a wonderful set up and team we had. It was fabulous to see past parents and students returning to support us too! I am incredibly grateful and proud of our community.
Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
This week is National Reconciliation Week (NRW). Reconciliation Australia’s 2022 theme this year is Be Brave Make a Change. Each year NRW celebrates and builds on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.
The dates that bookend the week are significant milestones in the reconciliation journey.
May 27 - Marks the anniversary of Australia’s most successful referendum and a defining event in our nation’s history. The 1967 referendum saw over 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Commonwealth the power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and recognise them in the national census.
3 June - Commemorates the High Court of Australia’s landmark Mabo decision in 1992, which legally recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a special relationship to the land - a relationship that existed prior to colonisation and still exists today. This recognition paved the way for land rights or Native Title.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians - as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As Australians we must strive towards a more just, equitable nation by championing unity and mutual respect as we come together and connect with one another.
This week at IHM, we are having special learning activities throughout the week in a spirit of goodwill, and recognition of the effects of colonisation, fostering a mutual respect and recognition of Australia's first people.
May the spirit of respect and reconciliation be amongst us all not only this week but firmly into the future.
Warm regards,
Pauline Kinsman

Prayer for Reconciliation
Lord God, bring us together as one,
reconciled with you and reconciled with each other.
You made us in your likeness,
you gave us your Son Jesus Christ.
He has given us forgiveness from sin.
Lord God, bring us together as one,
different in culture,
but given new life in Jesus Christ,
together as your body, your Church, your people.
Lord God, bring us together as one,
reconciled, healed, forgiven,
sharing you with others as you have called us to do.
In Jesus Christ, let us be together as one.
Amen.

Pentecost
This Sunday is Pentecost and occurs at the end of the fifty days of the Easter season. The Feast of Pentecost is one of the most joyful celebrations of the Catholic Church as it is considered to be the Church’s ‘birthday’. It commemorates the time when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and they were instilled with the gifts of courage, discernment and hospitality. Filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus’ disciples were given the energy to convey Jesus’ message to the wider world.
Sacramental Program
Last Wednesday, Kayleigh, Jake, Alia, Jacob, Thomas and Willow took part in their First Reconciliation and showing their commitment to building their Catholic faith. We are very proud of them both for taking the next step in their faith journey. Later this year they will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

This year 1/2 H is raising money for Hutt Street Centre.
In the first term we organised the IHM Crazy Hat day and raised $103 towards our goal of raising $350 throughout the year.
This term we are organising the 5 Cent Fundraiser!
Bring in your 5 cent coins between Week 5 and Week 9.
There is a container in each classroom.
The class that raises the most money wins an ‘instant class party!’
Winter has certainly arrived and families are reminded we now have IHM Polar Fleece Lined Rain Jackets with an enclosed hood ($45.00). Great for the weather we are currently experiencing!
We also have IHM Knitted Beanies ($12.00) on order and will be available very soon.
Families are reminded that students should only be wearing items from the School Uniform List (see attached):
