Week 5 Term 4 2021
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to Week 5, Term 4 - where time is literally flying, and we are having fun!
Welcome to New Students at IHM
Our orientation and transition program for new receptions has begun and we welcome 19 new students and their families who begin their formal schooling in Reception next year. At this special time, I hope that they and their families feel the love and connectedness of IHM and flourish throughout their school journeys.
SACPSSA Athletics Day
Congratulations to the Athletics team who represented our school at the recent inter school carnival. Congratulations to Isabella Piesse who did so well in her events that she won Age Champion. Fabulous effort Isabella!
A special mention to Eva Hynes, who showed wonderful heart spirit as she encouraged another competitor at the end of the race to “keep going”! An amazing gesture showing a loving, inclusive heart! The whole team tried their hardest, had a go, were very well behaved and encouraged each other, which is what IHM is all about. Thanks to our sports teacher, Jane Hidson for teaching, organizing and encouraging the children and to those parents who came along to help or support us.
Staffing and Organisation for 2022
The organization for next year is well underway. The class structures are organised and we have a couple of staffing changes which are still in process. All staff positions will be announced to the community in our next newsletter.
Class Placements for 2022
Class placements will be organised in the coming weeks. A lot of time and considerations go into forming these classes so that each child’s needs are best met.
At this time every year, I give parents an opportunity for input regarding the placement of their children for the following year. So, if you think there is some aspect of your child’s learning (social, emotional or academic needs) that requires further consideration, or you have a concern, please make a time to discuss these with me or email me so that your thoughts or concerns can be considered. Please ensure you do this by Friday 19th November.
Children’s University
Congratulations to two of our youngest students who were the only recipients of Graduating from The Children's University Adelaide program - Sophia and Juliet who will graduate this evening at Bonython Hall in the Adelaide University.
The Children’s University program offers superior educational experiences for children aged between 7 and 14 years outside of school and recognises their achievements through the award of formal certificates and graduations. The program fits in perfectly with our mission to involve parents in education and offers great learning experiences for you and your children.
Lost Property
Please label your children’s belongings - every day I pick up jumpers, hats, lunch boxes in the yard and it makes it easier for you to get them back if they’re named. The lost property box is in the hallway across from the cottages. You are welcome to check it.
End of Year Concert
A separate letter has been distributed outlining the plans and how you can book into the concert either through School Stream or return slip (see letter below):

Blessings of kindness and peace to you!

Recent News
Remembrance Day
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month of the year 1918, an armistice was signed, ending the "war to end all wars" - World War I. November 11 has therefore been set aside as Armistice Day, a day to pray for those who have died serving their country.
As a result of Armistice Day, Remembrance Day is celebrated in Australia each year on the 11th November. All Australians are urged to observe one minute of silence at 11.00 am to remember those who have died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars and conflicts. I encourage you all to spend a minute of silence to honour and pray for those who have fought to protect this land and bring peace.
Our whole school will gather on Thursday at 11.00am and our school leaders will run a service to remember all those who have died or suffered for Australia due to war and conflict.
Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant
This year we have been fortunate to win a grant from Woolworths Junior Landcare. This grant has enabled our school to purchase our worm farms, compost bin and our new rubbish bin system (the mini bins) around our school. This has had a big impact on our school environment so far as we continue to find ways to care for our common home, be sustainable and ecologically aware.
A Big Thank You to all our Green Hearts students who have been supporting this project and in particular our Green Heart Leaders Jett Lovegrove, James Whitehead and Jasper Henderson for all their hard work in ensuring these projects are successful. These boys have shown such fantastic leadership in our school. We are very proud of them.
Vinnies Christmas Appeal
Christmas can be a very difficult time for families, particularly those who are experiencing poverty and disadvantage. Together as a community we can make a real difference to their lives.
IHM will support the Vinnies Christmas Appeal in 2021 and ask families to help by sending donations to contribute to your child’s class Christmas hamper.
